Trolling Motors with Spot Lock

Imagine never drifting off your best fishing spot again. Spot lock technology uses GPS precision to automatically hold your boat in the exact position where fish are biting, fighting wind, current, and waves while you focus entirely on fishing.

No more constantly adjusting motor direction or worrying about drift. Cast, fight fish, net your catch, and rig new baits while your trolling motor holds position automatically. It's like having a professional guide controlling boat position while you focus on what matters – catching fish.

Pair your trolling motor with a quality fish finder to maximize the value of spot lock — when you know exactly where fish are holding, GPS positioning becomes even more powerful. Browse our Fish Finders collection to find the right unit for your setup.

Trolling Motors by Thrust Power - Power That Moves Your World

The rule of thumb to determine what kind of power you need for your motor is at least 2 pounds of thrust for every 100 pounds of fully loaded boat weight. This means people and all your gear would be included.

Don't size thrust for perfect conditions – plan for the windiest, choppiest day you'll fish. Having extra power available ensures confidence in all conditions while improving efficiency in normal conditions.

Don't let inadequate thrust power limit your fishing success. Choose the thrust rating that matches your boat, your conditions, and your fishing ambitions.

Choosing the Proper Shaft Length is Important

MINN KOTA'S SHAFT LENGTH RECOMMENDATIONS:

Choosing the proper shaft length is important; if it’s too short, the prop won’t be sufficiently submerged. Its recommend submerging the center of the motor section at least 12 inches. (*See below for a few exceptions to this recommendation)

  • *Add 5" to waterline measurement for fishing in rough water. Optimal operating mode is with the engine trimmed all the way down.
  • *Add 9" for bow-mount Hand Control motors.
  • *Its recommend that the propeller tip is submerged at least 12" below the water line to avoid churning or agitation of the water surface.

Trolling Motors by Mounting Styles: The Right Mount Changes Everything

Your trolling motor's mounting style determines how effectively you fish, how easily you control your boat, and how well your motor performs in different situations.

Choose the wrong mount and struggle with poor boat control. Choose right, and unlock your motor's full fishing potential.

Bow mount motors pull your boat through the water, providing superior steering response and precise positioning. Control your boat's direction intuitively – turn left to go left, turn right to go right – just like driving a car.

Bow mount motors offer the latest technology including GPS spot lock, wireless control, autopilot functions, and smartphone connectivity. Get access to the most advanced fishing features available.

Ideal For: Bass boats, walleye boats, serious fishing applications, and anglers who demand precision boat control.

Transom mount motors clamp directly to your boat's transom – no drilling, no permanent modification required. Install in minutes and start fishing with improved boat control.

Works on almost any boat style from small fishing boats to larger recreational craft. Great for anglers who fish from multiple boats or want to try trolling motor benefits without major investment.

Ideal For: Smaller boats, dinghies and canoes space-conscious setups, and anglers wanting both propulsion and trolling capability.

Don't let the wrong mounting style limit your trolling motor's effectiveness. Each mounting style excels in specific applications – choose the one that matches your boat, your fishing style, and your performance needs.

Planning to mount a transom motor on an inflatable fishing boat? Not all inflatables are motor-compatible — check our Inflatable Fishing Boats collection, where you can learn more on trolling motors compatibility and max thrust ratings.

Choose Your Power: Trolling Motors by Voltage

Voltage isn't just a number – it's the foundation that determines your trolling motor's performance, efficiency, and fishing capability.

Voltage: Indicates how much battery power your trolling motor requires. You’ll need 1 battery for every 12 volts in your trolling system – higher voltage means more thrust or power. Recommend below by Minn Kota:

    • 55lbs of thrust or less = 12 volts (one battery)
    • 70-90lbs of thrust = 24 volts (two batteries)
    • 112-115lbs of thrust = 36 volts (three batteries)

Don't forget battery storage space: Consider the amount of storage in your bilge for the trolling system chosen. If you want a 112lb thrust system, you will need space for 3 batteries (36 volt system).

Choose the voltage that matches not just your current needs, but your fishing ambitions.

If you're outfitting a kayak or inflatable, also explore our Bixpy Motors & Adapters — a lightweight 12V system purpose-built for smaller watercraft where carrying three batteries simply isn't practical.

Kayak Trolling Motors and Adapters: The Bixpy Difference

Not every angler fishes from a bass boat. Kayak and inflatable boat anglers need purpose-built solutions — and that's where Bixpy comes in.

Bixpy manufactures ultra-compact, lightweight electric motor systems designed specifically for kayaks, canoes, inflatable boats, and SUPs. Unlike traditional transom-mount or bow-mount trolling motors, Bixpy motors use a universal adapter system that attaches to your existing kayak rudder, fin box, or custom mount — no drilling, no major modifications required.

Why Ohio and Great Lakes kayak anglers love Bixpy:
- Lightweight enough to carry on portage trails to remote inland lakes
- Compact enough to stow in your kayak's bow hatch
- Compatible with nearly every inflatable kayak and hard-shell kayak on the market
- Powerful enough to fight Lake Erie winds and currents

Whether you're fishing Pymatuning, Mosquito Lake, or paddling the Cuyahoga River watershed, a Bixpy adapter system gives you motor-powered control without sacrificing the maneuverability that makes kayak fishing special.
